A Chicago Classic—Italian Beef
Contrary to popular belief, Italian Beef did not originate in Italy. It was invented in the Italian American neighborhoods in Chicago when Italian immigrants made the first Italian Beef sandwich in the 1930s. It quickly caught on as restaurants began to serve it to the masses–Connie’s being one of them. There are several different variations of the sandwich, none of which are wrong! At Connie’s, we add green peppers to make it a “sweet” Italian Beef and spicy giardiniera for a “hot” variation. Do you like yours dry or dipped? Check out how we slow roast our beef in house below.
